New Furniture Bank VanFair Frome’s Furniture Bank meets growing need with bigger more accessible van.

Fair Frome, which runs the Foodbank, Community Pantry, Baby Basics Bank, Food at 5 Community meals and other projects designed to alleviate the effects of poverty on Frome residents have purchased a bigger van for their Furniture Bank.

Nick McCulloch, Furniture bank Coordinator said: “I’m really pleased we have been able to purchase a newer van as the last one was getting unreliable and quite old. We also had issues with lifting heavy items like washing machines into the back and having to lie fridge-freezers down. The new vehicle is a Luton van with a tail lift improving health and safety and allowing us to supply a larger number of items to referred clients.”

Lenka Grimes, Senior Coordinator added “The Fair Frome Furniture Bank accepts referrals from local partners for people on a low income who are struggling to purchase essential items for their homes and can provide anything from single items to more extensive provision of goods depending on availability. Fair Frome aim to support the repair of white goods in the first instance where possible using a local business and to recycle items as much as we can , before purchasing.

The project relies upon the donation of good quality clean items which are suitable for smaller properties and can then be collected free of charge.  We especially need white goods like fridges and washing machines in good working order and cookers if they are electric. Other items we desperately need are sofas (2-seater with fire labels), small chests of drawers, single and double beds with clean mattresses(with fire labels), microwaves, small tables and chairs. Nick can advise if you call or email him”

John Killah, Chair of trustees commented

‘It is however important to emphasise that we were only able to purchase the new vehicle because of the fantastic help and support Fair Frome receives from all its supporters, from individuals to community groups and our business community. A huge ‘thank you’ is therefore due to all of our supporters and partners for helping to make this happen. It will make a big difference.’
