Community Pantry – Job Description

The Community Pantry is a fast paced project with two available roles, a personal shopper or set up support. You will need to meet the following requirements:

  • Regular commitment on Tuesdays
  • Availability either from 12pm – 2pm, or 1:30pm – 4:30pm depending on which role you apply for
  • Complete a level 2 Food Hygiene and Manual Handling training (support can be provided to get a training)
  • DBS check, (support can be provided to get your DBS check)

Setting up role requires: 

  • Ensuring that all deliveries are put away
  • Stock is replenished on the shop floor in a tidy manor that is pleasing to members
  • Ensure that all stock is rotated in accordance with use-by dates when being put out
  • Cardboard, food waste and any other rubbish put in the relevant outside bins.
  • Making sure that the fridge/freezer are labeled with correct foods on sale for the day.
  • Fruit and vegetables are bagged up
  • Shop floor is left tidy ready for customers.
  • Briefing is at 1:30pm.

Personal shopper role requires: 

  • Shopping with the members and marking off their allotted points on a whiteboard (you will be buddied up with another volunteer to receive a full training of this process)
  • Restock the shelves as necessary from the back room stock and/or containers
  • Ensure that all stock is rotated in accordance with use-by dates when being put out
  • Cardboard, food waste and any other rubbish put in the relevant outside bins
  • Checking that labels on the fridge and freezer reflect the food inside
  • Promoting stock using positive language
  • Signposting to other services (if you’re unsure just ask Rebecca or Lenka)
  • Supporting members who may need extra support choosing foods and how to make meals out of them.
  • Making sure that the shop floor is tidy and presentable for our members
  • Help to keep the back room neat and tidy as well as organize the food in the back room
  • Help to pack up at the end of the day by putting household items and health and beauty items in the back room
  • Tidy left over fruit and vegetables to be collected
  • Ensure food that needs to be used before the next session is on one shelf in the fridge and items checked on the shelves.
  • Flexibility to complete additional jobs as they arise
  • Reporting any feedback from the members to Rebecca and Lenka

The Community Pantry is lucky to have a diverse range of clients, some with additional needs, English as an Additional Language and unique dietary requirements. As a Community Pantry volunteer you should be ready to assist with all of the varying needs of our members.

It’s important that our members feel valued and heard, s0 listening, being present and positive are a large part of this role.
