Christmas has well and truly arrived at Frome College, with music drifting through the department, the tech team buzzing about DMX cables and trussing, and students putting final touches to choirs, solos and bands. This much-loved annual Christmas celebration takes place at St John’s Church in Frome and has become a firm favourite in the town’s festive calendar. Entry is free, but those hoping for the best view are encouraged to arrive early as seats have filled quickly in previous years.
On the night, audiences can look forward to a rich mix of choirs, solo performances and bands, all led by talented Frome College students. Between the music, guests can enjoy classic seasonal treats, with mince pies and hot chocolate on offer to help everyone get into the festive spirit. The concert is a chance for families, friends and the wider community to come together, celebrate young local talent and share in a warm, welcoming evening at St John’s.
Instead of tickets, there will be a retiring collection in aid of Fair Frome at the end of the concert. A retiring collection simply means that volunteers will be available with collection buckets or plates as people leave the church, giving anyone who wishes an opportunity to make a voluntary donation. Every contribution helps Fair Frome continue its work tackling food insecurity and hardship in the local area, from supporting the food bank to running projects that promote dignity and inclusion.
Frome College’s decision to support Fair Frome through this year’s concert highlights the strong partnership between the school and the town’s charities. The event not only showcases the hard work and creativity of students and staff, but also channels the generosity of the community towards neighbours who may be struggling this winter. Together, the music, refreshments and donations will help ensure that the festive season in Frome is not only joyful, but also compassionate and inclusive for all.
